Crush

Natasha Denona Crush Mini Eyeshadow Palette ($25.00 for 0.14 oz.) is a new, limited edition mini five-pan that includes four existing shades (scattered across various palettes) and one new shade (Koi). All five shades performed well; they were pigmented, blendable, and longer-wearing with Koi being more of a buildable product than the other four.

Daisy (190CK)

Daisy (190CK) is a bright, medium-dark pink with subtle, warm undertones and cooler iridescent sparkle throughout. The texture was moderately-dense with good glide and binder, which helped the sparkles adhere to the lid with little fallout and kept them evenly distributed throughout the base. It had opaque color coverage that stayed on well for nine hours before fading a bit.

Formula Overview

The majority of the brand’s eyeshadows are quite pigmented, blendable, and long-wearing. The eyeshadows have improved over time, particularly with respect to longevity (without a primer). The original formula often creased on me within seven to eight hours, whereas the more current formula wears eight to nine hours with fading (instead of full-on creasing). The more matte finishes tend to be a bit more velvety, substantial, and less dry/powdery compared to prior iterations.

The metallic finish is often the creamiest, slightly denser in feel, but has excellent pigmentation, adhesion, and blendability. The sparkling shades can have some fallout, depending on how they’re applied and how sparkly they are, so they sometimes work better with fingertips or a dampened brush; they can also run sheerer compared to other finishes.

Cream-Powders are the more unique formulation and tend to have firmer, almost stiff, consistencies and more semi-opaque, watercolor-esque coverage. They are longer-wearing, but they can take a few uses to learn how to use. This formula has also improved compared to when it first debuted–it is a bit more yielding now.

Lotus (185CM)

Lotus (185CM) is a light-medium pink with muted, warm undertones and a matte finish. The consistency was soft, blendable, and lightly powdery, though it wasn’t prone to sheering out. The eyeshadow had opaque color payoff that lasted nicely for nine hours on me.

Koi (187CM)

Koi (187CM) is a darker, reddish-plum with a semi-matte finish and warmer undertones. It had semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation with a smooth, velvety texture that was slightly thin but not at all powdery or stiff to work with. This shade is the only new shade in the palette (though it is reusing the number). It wore well for nine hours before fading visibly.

Soul (297CM)

Soul (297CM) is a vivid, reddish-coral with warm undertones and a matte finish. It had opaque color coverage paired with a soft, velvety texture that was blendable without being powdery nor too firmly-pressed into the pan. It stayed on well for nine hours before showing signs of fading.

Claret (274M)

Claret (274M) is a deep, orange-red with strong, warm undertones and a metallic finish. The eyeshadow felt moderatley-dense, slightly thicker in the pan, but I didn’t find that a dry brush had issues picking up product evenly, though I found pressing/patting it to be more effective than sweeping to getting even application of color. It had opaque pigmentation that lasted well for nine hours before creasing faintly.
