A big part of our business is staying up on the latest trends in sunglasses. We need to do it if we hope to provide the products our customers want. That being said, we are curious as to how well your inventory of rectangular sunglasses is selling. We ask because rectangles seem to be the hottest trend in designer eyewear brands right now.
Shapes and styles of sunglasses come and go. You have your faithful standbys – aviators, wayfarers, and cat eyes – that seem to be in demand all the time. But then you have other shapes and styles that are hot for a few months before fading away into memory. Rectangles seem to be one of those shapes.
Everybody Wants Them Right Now
It seems like everywhere you turn everybody wants rectangular sunglasses. Do a quick online search for rectangular sunglasses and you’ll get literally thousands of pages to choose from. So many fashion magazines and style experts are now recommending rectangles that it’s almost hard to quantify. The question is, why?
There is probably no way to answer that question with any kind of certainty. When it comes to designer sunglasses, the one predictable thing is that consumer tastes are unpredictable. All it takes is for one celebrity or influencer to start pushing a particular style or brand and the entire world wants it.
That is one of the main reasons we sell so many different styles of designer sunglasses at wholesale prices. We have cat eyes for women and children. We have designer wayfarers and aviators for both sexes. And of course, we have our own inventory of rectangular sunglasses.
Different Types of Rectangles

Knowing the Current Pulse
If there’s one lesson to be learned here it’s the fact that eyewear retailers and wholesalers have to always know the current pulse of the marketplace. Right now, among the hottest sellers in both retail and wholesale sunglasses are rectangular shades. That might change by early next year.
Come late winter, we might discover that rectangles are out for spring. Maybe teardrops or ovals will be the hot style six months from now. No one really knows. What we do know is that everybody wants rectangles right now. They are the shape to have on hand as we head into the holiday season.
Keep Looking Ahead
Here at Olympic Eyewear, we need to continuously look ahead. We must be able to turn on a dime in order to carry the wholesale sunglasses our customers are going to need weeks or months into the future. That means we need to anticipate market trends. We encourage you to do the same.
Keep looking ahead. Do your best to anticipate what types of designer sunglasses your customers are going to want three, six, and nine months down the road. Today it is rectangles. Tomorrow it might be cat eyes. Whatever you need to meet customer demand, you’ll find it at Olympic Eyewear.
