A live-action adaptation of DC Comics’ Teen Titans is officially in the works for James Gunn and Peter Safran’s DC Studios.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, screenwriter Ana Nogueira is already on board to write the script. Nogueira, recognizable for acting roles in CW’s The Vampire Diaries and Starz’s Hightown, is also working on DC’s Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow, set to star Milly Alcock.
The announcement makes Teen Titans the first film added to the initial run of DC Universe productions Gunn revealed back in January 2023. It remains to be seen how or when it will slot into what’s being called Chapter One: Gods and Monsters, but Gunn, Nogueria, and the DC team have plenty of options.
Made up of superhero “sidekicks,” the Teen Titans were originally introduced in 1964 in The Brave and the Bold #54. (The DCU Batman movie, it so happens, is also currently titled The Brave and the Bold.) Founding members included Robin, Wonder Girl, Kid Flash, and Aqualad. Comic legends Marv Wolfman and George Pérez turned the series into a hit in the ’80s with their The New Teen Titans title, adding the characters Beast Boy, Cyborg, Raven, and Starfire.

The roster has included a range of heroes over the years, including Hawk & Dove, Blue Beetle, Speedy/Arsenal (Green Arrow’s sidekick), Superboy, and yes, Supergirl. The franchise has also managed to span generations, often simultaneously. The animated series Teen Titans Go! ran for nearly 400 episodes on Cartoon Network and spawned 2018’s Titans Go! To the Movies, while more grown-up incarnations under the Titans banner include the four-season DC Universe/HBO Max live-action show and the current comic book run.
What team makes it into the DCU movie is yet to be seen, but fans probably have good money on some version of Robin/Nightwing, Raven, Starfire, and Beast Boy being involved.
Our first look at the DC Universe’s Chapter 1: Gods and Monsters is set to be the animated Creature Commandos TV show. Following that, the Gunn-helmed Superman movie is set to release on July 11th, 2025. Currently in front of cameras, that film is confirmed to star David Corenswet (Superman), Rachel Brosnahan (Lois Lane), Nicholas Hoult (Lex Luthor), Nathan Fillion (Green Lantern/Guy Gardner), Isabela Merced (Hawkgirl), Edi Gathegi (Mister Terrific), Anthony Carrigan (Metamorpho), and Wendell Pierce (Perry White).
