John Cena has announced that he’ll retire from the WWE in 2025.

Cena shared the news during a surprise appearance at WWE’s Money in the Bank event in Toronto, Canada on Saturday night. The 16-time world champion revealed his intention to participate in several events before hanging up his boots for good, including at Royal Rumble, Elimination Chamber, and WrestleMania in 2025, as well as at the upcoming Raw events airing on Netflix.

Much like Dwayne Johnson and Dave Bautista, Cena parlayed his professional wrestling success into a thriving acting career in Hollywood. Cena has already been a part-time wrestler and full-time actor for close to a decade, so his decision to depart the WWE for good likely won’t have much impact on his career one way or the other.

In terms of his upcoming film projects, he’s next set to star opposite Awkwafina in Paul Feig’s action comedy Jackpot!, which is set to premiere on Prime Video on August 15th. Production on a second season of Cena-led superhero series Peacemaker also recently got underway.
