With all of that said, here are some things you should know about blue light glasses before you begin selling them:

1. Their Purpose

Blue light glasses are a form of eyewear with lenses designed to filter out blue light. Blue light occurs in nature, but we are all exposed to extra levels of blue light by way of our screens and artificial lighting.

According to multiple sources, exposure to large volumes of blue light could increase the risk of certain eye diseases. Although we cannot say for sure that is the case, research is ongoing. Meanwhile, some experts believe that digital eye strain, also known as computer vision syndrome, is the result of excess blue light exposure. Some 50% of us experience this syndrome.

Blue light glasses are designed to filter out some of the blue light we are exposed to through our computer terminals and phones. In so doing, they are believed to lessen eye strain. They can also help protect against excess blue light in the natural environment.

How They Work

Blue light glasses are made with a special filter that reduces blue light levels to what is considered normal. They do not filter out all the blue light in a person’s environment. Rather, excess blue light from artificial lights and screens is reduced to normal levels.

This is important because our eyes need blue light to be healthy. Our eyes were designed to see it, and going to the extreme of completely filtering all of it out could cause permanent changes to the eyes. So instead, blue light glasses are designed to just deal with the excess.

Blue Light and Circadian Rhythms

There is some evidence suggesting that exposure to blue light just before bedtime can interrupt circadian rhythms, thereby causing sleep disturbances. Again, science has not definitively proved it as yet, but that is the suspicion. If you are on your phone right up until you are ready to roll over and go to sleep, phone use may be preventing you from getting quality, restful sleep.

Wearing blue light glasses while using the phone at night could help. By filtering out excess blue light, a person’s circadian rhythms are less likely to be disrupted in the time leading up to going to bed.

No Known Side Effects

There are no known side effects associated with blue light glasses, at least in the long term. There are some short-term side effects that are mainly harmless. For example, some people report that blue light glasses alter how they perceive colors while the glasses are being worn. Others find blue light glasses uncomfortable in the same way certain tints can make sunglasses uncomfortable.

As a retailer, your customers might be in the market for blue light glasses. Why not give them the option of buying them from you? Here at Olympic Eyewear, we sell blue light glasses along with our wholesale sunglasses for men, women, and children. We would be happy to be your supplier.
