Fade Into Hue

ColourPop Fade Into Hue 30-Pan Shadow Palette ($34.00 for 0.92 oz.) is a new, rainbow-inspired color story with an assortment of matte, sparkle matte, shimmer, and glitter textures. The palette is arranged by color in columns and then in rainbow-order going from left to right. There were some shades that were pigmented, blendable, and easy to work with, but there were a fair amount of sparkling matte shades that had a lot of fallout (both from the sparkles as well as some powderiness), so some of the enjoyment will depend on one’s threshold for fallout. I’d definitely apply this prior to base products, and I would use it with an eyeshadow primer, too.

For those concerned, there are four shades with plastic (PET) glitter in them, and then there are eight Pressed Pigments–all of these shades are marked with an asterisk and are “not intended for use in the immediate eye area.”

Fantasyland

Fantasyland is a very light, paler pink with subtle, warm undertones and warmer, more contrasting gold shimmer that gave it a frosted finish. The texture was more loosely-pressed, which resulted in light to moderate fallout during application and a less-than-even application of product. I’d recommend using with a dampened brush or a fingertip, which helped to smooth the product into place. It had opaque color coverage that lasted for eight hours before fading visibly on me.

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing” and “adheres easily to the eyes.” Most of the shades have semi-opaque to opaque pigmentation that applies well to bare skin, blends out without issue, and lasts for seven to eight hours.

The matte eyeshadows tend to be a little more powdery, though soft and finely-milled, in the pan, while the shimmers have a creamier, dense consistency. Occasionally, the more sparkly or metallic shades apply better with fingertips or a dampened brush.

Atelier

Atelier is a bright, darker pink with subtle, cool undertones and faint sparkle over a matte finish. The texture was soft enough but moderately powdery with a tendency for both powder and flecks of sparkle to fly away (visibly!) when applied and diffused. I’d recommend patting this into place with a denser brush and only gingerly blending it out to avoid tons of fallout. It had opaque color coverage that wore well for eight and a half hours and left a stain behind.

Formula Overview

$4.50/0.05 oz. – $90.00 Per Ounce

Iconic

Iconic is a medium-dark cobalt blue with strong, cool undertones and a mostly matte finish. It had nearly opaque color coverage that was buildable to full coverage with a second layer. The texture was slightly thinner and drier compared to most eyeshadows in the palette. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading visibly.

Express

Express is a light lavender with subtle, cool undertones and warmer, golden shimmer. It had more of a frosted finish as it was a chunkier texture that was very loosely-pressed into the pan. It had more semi-sheer, somewhat buildable pigmentation due to the texture–it just was hard to bind together as a cohesive product. There was a lot of fallout during application. It lasted decently for seven and a half hours before fading a bit.

Selfie

Selfie is a medium lavender with cool undertones and a matte finish with sparkles on top. The sparkles did not bind with the underlying color, so there was moderate fallout from the sparkles and light fallout from the more powdery texture. This shade showed signs of fading after eight hours of wear.

The new Pressed Powder Shadow formula is supposed to be “highly pigmented” with an “ultra-velvety and silky” texture that is “long-wearing.” The way the Pressed Pigments differ is that they’re not intended for usage on the immediate eye area.

The majority of the shades are semi-opaque to opaque in coverage, blend out fairly well, and can sometimes be a bit drier/more powdery compared to typical matte shades. They often wear eight to nine hours on me before fading, but many shades in the Pressed Pigment family leave some staining behind.

Majestic

Majestic is a medium purple with neutral-to-warm undertones and matte finish. The product had nearly opaque color payoff that could be built to full coverage with less than half of a layer more. The texture was slightly drier and stiffer compared to most shades in the palette, but there wasn’t any fallout, so that was nice. It stayed on well for eight hours before fading a bit, though it stained slightly.

Nouveau (Fade Into Hue)

Nouveau (Fade Into Hue) is a light-medium purple with subtle, warm undertones and a frosted finish. The texture was slightly drier and had some fallout during application as a result. It applied best with a fingertip or a dampened brush, which ensured full coverage with minimal fallout. It had more semi-opaque, buildable pigmentation that wore decently for eight hours before fading visibly.

Zeitgeist

Zeitgeist is a medium-dark, slightly muted purple with neutral-to-cool undertones and a matte finish. It had buildable coverage from semi-opaque to opaque in two layers. The consistency was lightly powdery and on the thinner side, so there was light fallout while blending it out, but it applied evenly and wasn’t difficult to blend out. It lasted well for eight and a half hours before showing signs of fading.
