Alright everyone, prepare to gird your loins again. Puck reports that a Devil Wears Prada sequel is in the works, with Meryl Streep and Emily Blunt set to return to their roles.
While writer Aline Brosh McKenna may return to pen the script, not necessarily in the conversation is Anne Hathaway, who originally starred in the 2006 film about a young assistant who has to contend with one of the world’s worst bosses — a high-powered fashion magazine editor.
Last April, Hathaway didn’t sound optimistic about a Prada sequel, telling V Magazine that “We all love each other and if somebody could come up with a way to do it, I think we’d all be crazy not to. But there’s a huge difference in the world now with technology, and one of the things about that particular story is it was about producing a physical object. Now with so much being digital, it would just be very different. Maybe me, Stanley, Emily, Meryl, Dave Frankel, Patricia Field…we should just all do something else together. That’d be fun.”

The new film, Puck’s Lauren Sherman says, may leave Hathaway’s Andie Sacks behind entirely and focus on the fate of Miranda Priestly, Streep’s fearsome character, as she faces the end of her career as well as the withering of the magazine publishing industry. Complicating things is Blunt’s character Emily, who’s now an executive at a luxury fashion brand in control of said brand’s advertising dollars.
Of course, these details are subject to change as the film grows closer to becoming a certainty. Meanwhile, Streep is set to return for the fourth season of Only Murders In the Building later this summer, while Blunt starred in the criminally under-appreciated The Fall Guy.
