Dogma, the 1999 fantasy comedy film from Kevin Smith, will return to theaters this year for a special 25th anniversary release.

AMC Theatres and Iconic Events Releasing are teaming up for the limited release, which will tour through 25 cities in the US beginning on June 5th. Newly remastered in 4K and featuring an exclusive behind-the-scenes Q&A with Smith, the new anniversary release arrives after Smith regained the rights to Dogma from former owner and producer Harvey Weinstein. Smith will kick off the celebration with a special screening of Dogma at The Grove in Los Angeles on Easter Sunday, April 20th.

Widely released on November 12th, 1999, Dogma served as Smith’s fourth feature film and starred Ben Affleck and Matt Damon as fallen angels seeking to return to heaven via a loophole in the Catholic doctrine. Also starring Chris Rock, Linda Fiorentino, Salma Hayek, Jason Lee, George Carlin, Janeane Garofolo, and Alanis Morissette, plus Jason Mewes and Smith as Jay and Silent Bob, the film employed a satirical, irreverent look at the Catholic religion and caught the ire of religious groups like the Catholic League upon release.

The Dogma 25th anniversary release tour will stop in cities like San Diego, Phoenix, Seattle, Minneapolis, Chicago, Kansas City, Dallas, Houston, Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, Atlanta, Tampa, Orlando, and more. The tour will also stop at Smith’s hometown movie theater, Smodcastle Cinemas in Atlantic Highlands, New Jersey. The new re-release of Dogma will also coincide with the film’s official release to streaming services, though streaming details are still unknown. He’s also planning a Dogma sequel, and is dead-set on including Affleck and Damon. “Expect a cameo from them — more than a fucking cameo. The only way we get a Dogma sequel made is if they’re there. So count on those guys being there,” Smith said in November.

Beyond finally securing the rights to Dogma — which Smith claimed that Weinstein was “holding hostage” — Smith’s latest film was 2024’s The 4:30 Movie. Revisit Consequence’s interview with Smith from last year, where he discussed his lengthy career, the state of the film industry, and more.
